What is corona virus?
Corona is a dangerous virus. The word Corona means crown in Latin language. Actually, the structure of this virus named Corona has a crown like nails, hence the name Corona was given.

This virus belongs to a family of viruses that spreads very quickly and has problems like colds, coughs and breathing problems. For more information, read our following article,

What is corona virus and how to avoid it?

Symptoms of corona virus:

  • Headache
  • cough
  • Throat pain
  • respiratory distress
  • Muscle aches
  • Fever and fatigue

How will the corona symptoms appear:

The corona virus infected patient first has fever, then dry cough. After a week, there is trouble in breathing. Constant muscle pain persists. Its fever can also affect the kidney by causing pneumonia.
Let us now know what is the diagnostic test of corona virus?

How is a coronavirus tested? (Coronavirus Test)

Now I will explain to you in a very easy language how to test the corona. It is very important for you to understand this so that when you have to do this test, you will not have any problem.
Actually, the corona is tested in two stages.
  1. Prelims
  2. Final
Seeing the symptoms in the first stage, it is estimated that this person has chances of getting an infection. In the final stage it is confirmed that this person is Corona positive.
The institution of our country, ICMR i.e. Indian Council of Medical Research is making full arrangements for people to do diagnostic tests and in this link, labs of 52 prelims have been made across the country.

How is a prelims test?

Not everyone is sent for the prelims test. Only those people who have symptoms are advised to get this test done. Such as fever, sore throat, runny nose, dry cough, pain in body etc.
Or people who have returned from traveling to infected countries. Their screening is done. Infected countries like China, Italy, Iran, Japan, etc.
Also, if the people around a corona positive person are tested, then after testing these people, the samples are sent to any of the 52 nearest labs.

How is the corona test done?

However, no solid test kit exists to check for this infection yet. But doctors are trying to detect this infection through a mucus or blood test.
These tests include these tests,
Swab Test: In this test, a piece of cotton is put in the throat or nose and a sample of mucus is taken from it.
Nasal Aspirate: The second test is Nasal Aspirate, in which a saline solution is prepared and put into the nose. The sample is then sent to the lab.
Tracheal aspirate: The third test is the tracheal aspirate, in which the bronchoscope (a procedure that can be seen inside the airways of the lungs) is inserted into the lungs. Or sputum test is also done.

In how many days does the result come?
The result of this test takes a while. Many labs generate reports within 10 hours.
Are these tests correct?
Since we do not have any test kit. That is why these tests cannot be trusted completely. But these tests have been accepted to a large extent.
What happens in the lab?First we told you how to test a person, now we will tell you how to find out inside the lab that this person is corona positive.
Actually, PCR tests are done on these samples in labs. PCR means a polymerase chain reaction test. Now let's understand in a little detail what this PCR test is.

What is a PCR test?

Polymyers are the enzymes that make copies of our DNA. In this chain reaction, DNA parts are copied very quickly. This process goes on like this. SARS-COV-2 virus is made up of RNA, not DNA.
That is why during the test it is first converted into DNA. The technique of converting RNA to DNA is called reverse transcription. If something resembles the DNA or RNA of the virus in a patient's sample, the test is considered positive.
That is, the corona's genetic elements are first tested, converted into DNA, then matched to the patient's sample.

How is a finals test done?

Prelims determine whether the patient is corona positive or not. Now, to confirm this, the patient's sample is sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for the final test.
This sample is now combined with the gene sequence of Corona SARS-Cov-2 from Wuhan. If test positive is found here also, the Health Ministry confirms the corona positive patient.

How long does this process take?

ICMR scientist Dr RR Gangakhedkar says that this process used to take 6 hours earlier but now real time PCR has reduced the time taken to test the samples by 4 hours.

This is how coronavirus is tested. If you see any such symptom that indicates you have corona virus, then the helpline is active for 24 hours for any information related to screening and treatment. You can contact on 0120-4186453.
